Slow start for G200

A source from www.overclockers.co.uk – one of the UK’s largest hardware resellers - has revealed to Total PC Gaming that sales of nVIDIA’s new 280 and 260 GTX cards are much slower than normally expected for a new GeForce release. The Radeon 4800 series is being cited as the cause for this, as ATi’s latest cards perform similarly but are significantly cheaper. We will be looking at both of manufacturer’s latest and greatest offerings in our supertest the next issue which will be on sale 7th August.

Not suprising really. I’m waiting for the 4870 to be released and I’ll treat myself for my birthday (usually around August Bank Holiday - yep, that’s right, you all get a day off work for the Queens birthday and mine as well).

My last ATI card was the stunning x1950Pro, I then upgraded to the 8800GTS 320 and then the 8800GT. I have no real affinity with either manufactuer, but I’ve always found the ATI cards/drivers to be that little bit more stable (which isn’t really saying much ).

£160 for a card that goes toe to toe with the 260, no choice really. Particularly as the bottleneck seems to have shifted back to CPU’s and RAM.
